OUR MISSION AND HISTORY

Our mission is build healthy families and a strong Dallas community by preventing child abuse and neglect. Our mission resonates through four educational and therapeutic programs for families at increased risk for child abuse. The Center works to empower its clients by teaching positive parenting methods and supporting parents in strengthening their families' emotional, economical, physical, and social capacities. The CAP Center is a key provider of prevention services for high-risk children and families in Dallas County. Since 1992, more than 36,000 clients have been served by the CAP Center.

In 1992, local exchange clubs came together to support community efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect and establish our center. The Center welcomed a move to the Wilson Historic District in 1999, after receiving a grant for 10 years of office space at no cost from the Meadows Foundation. In 2008, our name was formally changed to the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Center. The CAP Center is a United Way agency.
